Sorrow the Martyr
Faith that can embrace martyrdom - is that a good or a bad thing? With the deluge of religions around nowadays, one cannot help but ask the fundamental question; which one to follow? What is true, the cross, the minaret, or the lotus flower bed? Do all religions lead their followers to the same place in the end? Pretty interesting questions to ponder upon, but with some logical thinking one can make a life-changing decision.

Let's face it, everyone wants to have fun without any of the responsibilities. Accountability seems to be taboo nowadays. One of the many reasons God is rejected is due to the fact that we would then be accountable for every single thing we do. Thoughts, words, deeds - either good or bad are being closely watched and recorded.

Before continuing, I would like to lay down some basic premises. Looking at it objectively, man is a logical creature. Things that do not make any sense irk and confound us, and that is easily summed up in the question "Where is God (if any) when bad things happen?" Do you really think we somehow developed such an instinct through the religion called evolution? Hardly! Upon establihsing the fact that man is a logical creature, the argument concerning all roads leading to Rome can be thrown out of the window. Would an Almighty being actually present creation with conflicting roads to the same destination?

A good place to start would be checking out the claims of the respective founders of the many religions we have today. Don't forget to remove one's brain from the bank's vaults before embarking on such an adventure! Go into each topic with an open mind - read commentaries, expositions, and most importantly, examine the life, claims, words, and deeds of the respective leaders. Do they contradict with each other? If it sounds contradictary in nature, find out the meaning using the language where the original text was written in.

Do remember to dig up dirt regarding the history of various texts - how the books were written, the authors and the timeline. That's what the Internet is for (other than online shopping heh). Get your hands dirty, and dive right in! You'll not only come out with a higher level of general knowledge, but you'll understand the various faiths better.

Ultimately, its your choice. That's the exciting/scary/boring (depending on which camp you are) part. Nobody is ever "born" into a religion - when one is old enough, that person starts to question the basic questions of life, "Who am I?", "What am I doing here?" and "Where am I going?", and makes a decision sooner or later, but sometimes never. I used to take my salvation for granted because I'm a spoilt brat full of self-centeredness, but thank God, things have changed :)

Can I embrace martyrdom should the situation call for it, or would I rather save my bacon? Right now I can say yes - but when there's a rusty, blunt, saw heading for my testicles under the guise of the eunuchinisation (if there's such a word) process, all I can do is close my eyes. And pray --- HARD! Part of my wants such a time to come to prove myself, but another part wishes for things to remain status quo. Pride shouts in the former while fear rules the latter. There's only one thing to do - concentrate on the present and in everything I do, always keep the end in mind. My Shepherd will be with me until the end and forevermore.
Marvellous!
I marvel at the different people I meet every day - their idiosyncracies, driving behaviour, and habits. Life would then be bland, blanketing us with the deathly white colour of an albino. It amazes me how basic road rules are not obeyed after decades of driving - people in Penang aren't particularly fond of using their signal lights, especially at roundabouts. They drift from one lane to the other, with a hand on the steering wheel while its other half is merrily catching up in the great olfactory gold rush. Slow drivers remain in the outer lane, motorcycles going against the traffic *sigh*

Vehicle dashboards should come with an indicator showing whether all 3 brake lights are working as they should. Such an essential warning tool and the engineers have not incorporated it into their designs after all these years! Cars have sensors that alert you for nearly everything imaginable nowadays, from bird poop to the level of UV rays getting past your Sun-Guard® windscreen, but when it comes to a basic safety item like brake lights...

Saw MechaHeart at CB Gurney yesterday, infusing his veins with life giving caffeine. He's resurrecting his blog upon hearing the wonderful news of Loyal's debut. Dealing with Big Brother Loong Sdn Bhd's director was not so easy. The high interest rates and intensive physical training regimen imposed upon the borrower can be quite a turn off, but with little choice what can a blue-collared man do?

Polos is rUlEzZ?
Lim pek is damn disappointed because lim pek's favourite Thresh kena thrashed by Vodka guzzling Polosaity *sniff* that si gi nah I tell you! Lim pek si beh tulan this morning.

On a brighter note, that was but a blip in this upcoming week. I have an extremely good feeling about the next few days, partly because the songs they played on radio were so my-type. Ada Backstreet Boys' "Drowning" la, Goo2Dollz' "Name" la, and also Keith Sweat's "Twisted". Wahlane, BSB memang best! Love that song to bits (and pieces). So yeah, its gonna be an excellent week yo!

How often do I lose my sense of urgency, and throw away everything just for a fleeting moment of gratification? Too often, it seems. Man, its really tough to live up to certain standards, but the concrete rewards will make the journey pale in comparison. Damnit Reaper - stop focusing on your wanton wants at the moment and start thinking long term!

Change is so painful and uncomfortable, but the results reaped does wonders to the spirit. Seeing childlike innocence is a pleasing experience to many, but dealing with it is a totally different thing. The very same cute kid with a button nose can push my patience to the very limit, and even exasperate me. God, please grant me the necessary wisdom! Older people, on the other hand, are something like kids except they are much less malleable. Having eaten more salt (both literally and figuratively :P) than I, their mindset cannot be budged. It seems all but impossible to do - time and patience will tell though. Maybe the wrong tools have been employed so far, time to bring in the artillery! :P

LoyalHeart, you're supposed to be back. Its already the end of March, and I don't even see any sign of you! Come back la, Amazonian is coming back next weekend to take position atop her pole at Amazon - very friendly people there la, so full of love ;) Or you want me to bring you to this air-conditioned joint that serves ice-cold beer at RM6 a pop, with free karaoke facilities? :D

p.s. LoyalHeart's blog is up! No more secret refresh link on this page :( Anyways go give him some love! :D

Polling Day!
Yeah, so the general elections are over, and I'm glad that BN won the mandate required. The polls I'll be touching on today are as interesting as the one we had last Sunday - and maybe even more for some :)

Head on to ESReality's Greatest Gamer of All Time poll and vote for your favourite gamers! This week's bout features Mr. Pac Man - he's played the perfect game of Pac-Man. He won the game, all 256 levels of it, by eating every single pill, killing all the ghosts, and missing none of the bonuses. Talk about hardcore and perseverance! Took him 19 years to do it, but he finally achieved what he dreamt of all his life. And to think kids today follow his example, by popping pills in dark rooms with repetitive music playing in the background...

Mr. Pac Man's up against Xenon - who could forget Xenon when he and Thresh's DR went face-to-face in the much hyped US vs Europe match? Enough of him already, click on the link to place your votes!

Another interesting poll would be GameSpy's Title Fight!. Not quite sure what game's featured this week, but its the definitive poll that will quench all juvenile arguments of "Half-Life's the BEST!", "Starcraft > Warcraft!!!", etc.

What are you guys waiting for, go exercise your democratic right as a gamer! Do be objective, but I can tell you my votes are for Quake and Thresh. 'Nuff said!

p.s. Is it me or does Fat look like Eminem in the photo used by ESR?

Boar
Damn it! My RM0.60 bulb which I bought yesterday to replace the original died on me this morning. I'm not quite sure whether its the torchlight that conked out on me (at the same spot, no less!) or the bulb just plain gave up. It wasn't even half as bright as the original bulb that came with the torchlight! I'm not sure whether I should go get a new torchlight that feeds on normal D-sized batteries, one of those big-ass Dolphin torches or those baton types that comes with a built-in rechargable battery. Decisions, decisions!

Recently I experienced a couple of days where nearly everything just fell into their rightful place - gotta thank God for it. Its a really amazing feeling, and although not everything went my way, the important ones did. Now to fire-fight the urgent ones...

Its interesting to see people meet regularly but not going beyond the "Hi-Bye" stage. I find it highly amusing when, for example, 2 people who meet while hiking. The first, (let's call him A for easy reference while the other fellow is B) descending, meets B who's ascending. The normal conversation will go something like this.

A: Going up?/So early ah?
B: *panting* Yeah.

A friendly nod, wave, and they set off from the momentary pause to their respective destinations. Asking an obvious question, just for conversation's sake. Highly amusing (to me anyway)!

Had toasted bread with butter and a couple of half-boiled eggs for breakfast today at the low price of RM1.50. An alternative would be 2 sunny-side up eggs and the same amount of toasted bread w butter going for RM2.30. The owner got to be kidding when her cooking oil costs RM0.80 cents more! Weird, weird pricing.

Free Radicals
Was just reading about Pycnogenol® and how beneficial it is to one's body. Sounds really promising, but I've got one nagging question in my mind - if it releases electrons to prevent free radicals from swimming around in my body, doesn't it become a free radical itself? Will have to do further reading on it. A quick trip down to Nature's Farm to see phlegmatic Miss Hooi should be able to satisfy my curiousity.

Funny how some friendships can last, and while a select few just wither away and die, but with no sense of remorse on either side. That's what makes life so interesting - being blessed with emotions to experience the thrills and spills we all go through.

Met Chocobo yesterday evening at Moongate 5. 4 hour sleep days are a torture, Shen, but glad you're partying and working hard at the same time! :) Maybe in 5 years' time when Lian comes back from Hong Kong she'll share with us other ideas of hers and make the entire island kowtow to us :P

Had dinner @ Safari - the only buzz of activity came from the duck rice stall (formerly of Air Itam Market fame). I wonder what prompted the owner to transfer his business to the other side of the island, and he's changed his operating hours as well. He used to cater to the post-clubbing crowd, opening his stall only at midnight. Maybe life has mellowed his adventurous spirit, but the duck rice's still pretty swanky :) Coupled with soy-sauce pork, intestines, egg, and salted vegetables, I'm good to go. Post-dinner snack was fun, with Prawn Tempura going at RM1 a pop along Jln Burmah. For a place serving Jap food, they were certainly a let down when it came to Asahi beer - they didn't serve it at all! :(

As of 12.30pm today, its KLSE 1, Reaper 0. Pwned!

Kukubooru
Darn it, what's wrong with Penny-Arcade's site...it seems mighty slow today. I really enjoy Gabe's style of drawing. I've come to notice that most comic artists improve upon their work after a few month/years, and then they hit a plateau. Look at Garfield, Snoopy, Calvin & Hobbes, Dilbert, and those at PA. The initial runs are rather elementary, and when the respective artist arrives at the point-of-no-return, he remains there. Comics from that specific point of time will look the same forever. No more improvement, nada. It gives a sense of consistency to the readers, but if it can be improved further, why not? I think no matter what, in most cases, there'll always be room for improvement, but when it comes to drawing comics, I'm not too sure.

Damn the time of Champions League football :(

On a sidenote, it looks like not only are people trying to siphon money out of Nigeria, but Liberia as well. Today I got my first Liberian scam e-mail :(

Go Pak Lah! :)
Ah, with the elections over, at last the people of Terengganu are free to rear kerbau pebdek...er, I meant pigs for commercial reasons and not just personal consumption only. Cultural shows and booze will resurface and cause PAS' moral police to boil and seethe in anger, and maybe increase their blood pressure by a notch or two. Their president, Hadi Awang has declared that he will continue to fight in the name of Islam. Atb to him anyways, but its time to pop the champagne at the moment, and maybe offer him a glass (or two).

No sign of a public holiday, but its all good. Foreign investors will throw their money into our country, and could we be looking to cruise past the 1,000 point level in the MSEB? *crosses fingers*

HOT TIP: Get gaming stocks now as they have traditionally paid high dividends, but regaining control of Terengganu and maybe Kelantan will pave the way for gaming companies to open up branches in those two states and thus increase revenue/cashflow into their coffers. Don't say I didn't warn you, but let's keep hindsight in the closet for the moment until the end of the year ;)

Harps and Wings
How does one rediscover the joys of gaming? Will a spanking new Radeon 9800 XT change things? Not that I can afford one though :P The days of marathon sessions spent in a dark, dank, cybercafe are nothing but pleasant memories now :)

Woke up with a headache this morning, but am feeling much better now. Dehydration is bad for your body, boys and girls. On the bright side, the weekend is upon us (yet again) and there is much to accomplish the next 72 hours, with sleep located right at the top of the list.

There are around 20 trolls loitering at HarbX's forum - anyone wants to adopt one? Maybe they don't have daily access to the Net, but we'll never know.

Foogles, hold your horses on the Mini iPod. Microsoft claims to have an iPod killer in waiting, and will feature a portable version of Windows Media Center. Now how about that? As for the bag, go ahead and get it man, since you're amassing gadgets at an expensive pace ;)

am.pm
Its amazing how much gas one releases each day ;) especially in the mornings, or just after filling up an empty stomach with nothing but fruits and vegetables. Honeydews and watermelons are good candidates to reenact scenes from Dumb & Dumber (heh)

I was talking to the Kok earlier today, and the word of the day would be "security". Assuming one is content with one's life, a constant safety net knowing that everything will be as it is tomorrow is the Holy Grail. I shall not go into the mechanics of what constitutes security because the cows can come home and everyone will still have a different viewpoint on it.

I wonder how Loyal's doing up in Genting. What does Choobi do each evening. Is JoyJoy still going at it in RO? What about Mecha - is he downing coffee each waking moment? NetCities 1, 2, and 3 are still around, guess AlmostAHeart's doing pretty well.

We'll be shifting office to Burmah Road in about 3 to 6 months' time. I never realised the ceilings there were so low until the other day. Man its been a really long time since I stepped foot into that building. I remember the video arcade on the 5th floor, working at NovelHut after PMR, arranging and bagging comics for a paltry RM2.00 an hour. Super Ninja, hangout of many a juvenile, has already closed (for how many years, I wouldn't know) and is replaced by a cybercafe. Informatics has moved to an adjacent lane. Parking's going to be a problem, unless you're the boss, of course. I'm sure the many coffeeshop owners are rubbing their hands in glee as there are many more hungry people to feed during lunch hour. Well, at least Lorong Selamat's Char Koay Teow is easily accessible when we've moved *smacks lips*

Just to test if Beckylicious reads this ---> She likes men with hairy legs! ;)

Risk
And not even the boardgame, mind you. What are the 2 emotions that have a deathgrip on most of us? Fear and anger. I'll not even delve into some Star Wars mumbo-jumbo about fear leading to the ultimate outcome, suffering. Let's not waste any time on that.

I realised I've never really lived all this while due to fear. Anger? Anger is expressed in many ways, and it is destructive when bottled up. A certain few keep track of their anger by notching it up their sleeves, much like how a person keeps track of time spent in jail by carving out lines in the cell wall. Others just explode all the time at the slightest provocation, while some people like me come up with sarcastic remarks, laying low blows to the victim (except I end up with an egg on my face more often than not :P).

How about this for a paradigm shift - job security. Everyone's looking for it nowadays, in fact it remains high on each interviewee's list. What are my prospects? What are the perks and benefits that come with the job? Are you ready to bank your future in the hands of your employer - car, house, and study loans all lumped into one, or would you rather carve your own destiny and escaping the Rat Race soonest possible? Logically, it would be riskier to depend wholly on a job in order to upkeep one's daily life instead of taking managed and calculated risks, i.e. a commission based job, your own business, gathering assets, etc.

The beauty of being human is the ability to choose, and that alone is much reason to be thankful to God for. Today, I will choose.

Kueer
I was driving the other day when I caught a quaint sight. Right there along the pavement stood a dog, and it was oblivious to its surroundings save for its perpetual nemesis, a member of the feline order. The cat was crouching near the drain, legs all poised to spring away should its canine nemesis decide to have a snack before being served a proper meal. The staring match went on for around 10 seconds longer, when the dog made the first move.

It didn't pounce on the cat as expected, but rather, it spread its legs and decided to poop on the pavement. The interesting question is this, did it poop because the cat scared the shit outta the dog?

Bata!
Watching the San Miguel Asian Tour Pool tournament yesterday, I was blown away by Efren's amazing fightback against the Cold Faced Killer. It sorta rekindled some pool semangat but there're no pool tables here that charge by the hour (not that I know of anyway). Upon recommendation from the Kok, he asked me to purchase Virtual Pool 3 since I'm not good enough for a real pool table. I shall take his golden advice into consideration later.

Time to revisit easypooltutor.com to boost my flagging interest! :) Watch out Gus!

Teh Ais!
How I lament the day I know right from wrong, good from bad. That was the day I am accountable for all my deeds and thought, and there's no running away from it. Funny how in my zeal I become both a prude and a prig, overflowing with self-righteousness and offering nothing but patronizing words in a scathing manner. Perhaps I should be shown the path of humility, but do I have what it takes to tread down that road? I certainly know I'll be needing lots more than prayer :)

Hiking is fun. Not only do you meet friends (*waves at Shen*), colleagues, old men with well-toned calf muscles to carry the mandatory beer belly, couples escaping the watchful eyes of our moral police, but I find that the occasional Calamity Level 5 befalls at the opportune moment in order to discourage me from unclogging my arteries. I was warming up the other day, and I placed my hand on a rather huge boulder jutting out from the ground. Needless to say, Reaper's Luck® (I failed in my Saving Throw) just about ran out. A well camouflaged ant dug its mandibles into my left thumb - sending a searing yet numbing pain. I withdrew the offended appendage and upon closer inspection, the bugger still hasn't let go. A QuikFlik remedied the situation, but realised that tiny insect had merrily dug deep enough into my thumb to elicit precious drops of blood from it. Its definately a first for me, and I certainly hope it'll be the last!

Faith, following facts, leaves feeling trailing behind. Very sound advice in this day and age.

Made the 24 hour trip down to KL last weekend, Foogles was supposed to call me that night but he was too busy contemplating the questions of life, and promptly forgot. Fortunately, he answered his doubts the next day, and elevated his social status to "Owner of a spankin' new PS2". I suppose you'll find it harder to schedule appointments with him since he's got Soul Calibur 2 and Final Fantasy 12 to keep him occupied until the next general elections are over. Did meet PeskyAudrie Sdn. Bhd. that night for supper, and got an earful of Old Man's Advice from the Pesk himself - he still owes me a couple of "I told you so"'s this year, and I won't be too keen on the prompt debt repayment. Didn't have time to meet up with the rest of the gang properly, will do that the next time oraits? The ghetto's moving too fast for a sedentary snail like me :(

On a side note, a sense of disillusion and marked confusion gripped the half-open door. Where's the handle, on the inside or the outside? The place was reeking of stubbornenss, and desire hid underneath the shelter of security.

Do any of you 3 readers here drink Guinness? What's inside that makes it so good? Apparently, a newspaper article cited the fact that only 3 people know the secret of Guinness at any one time. Other than malt, hops, and barley, what's the secret stuff they add in to give it the energy-bursting feeling the morning after? I find Guinness, or Orh-Kau (Black Dog in Hokkien), tend to lessen the pains of a hangover the morning after. And to think they used to serve Guinness in hospitals for people who donated blood! Where're the British! I want to be colonised again! :) Hold on for a moment, we are a colonised nation, under the blanket of 'globalisation'. Them Yanks! :P
